Is a Border Collie Puppy Right For You?
A lot of people see a dog and think that the dog is cute and run off and buy one without really doing the proper research to figure out whether or not this is really the right breed of dog for them. This can lead to a lot of abandoned or surrendered dogs, so it is important to make sure you know what to expect from the breed of dog you are considering. When it comes to border collie puppies, there are some things you should definitely know before buying this dog.
Border collie puppies do not make easy family pets. They are not going to just sit around the house all day and be happy for whatever crumbs of attention you might be able to give them. These dogs are very active and very social, and if they don’t get the attention, stimulation, and activity that they need they will start to exhibit unpleasant behaviors and develop unwanted personality traits. You will need to give them lots of exercise as well as a job to do (although that job could be as simple as catching frisbees or balls that you throw for this purpose). You will also need to provide constant training so that the dog will be stimulated and won’t get bored. These dogs are some of the smartest dogs out there.
If you are a very active family who would love to spend a lot of time playing with your pet, then border collie puppies might be just the right dogs for you. They love to do things for their owners, and they tend to be easy to train. They are great working dogs if you live on a farm and could use a dog to help herd animals, and they are also great for people who would like to get involved with dog sports since border collies tend to excel in these areas.
People who have small children, small pets, or who live in apartments would be advised to choose another type of dog, as border collie puppies do not do well in these types of situations. They like to try to herd other small animals and children, and they need more space and exercise than an apartment will provide.
