The Life of a Border Collie
You might have watched the movie Babe and loved the little white and black dog that herded the sheep, and have come to find out that the name of the dog was a Border Collie. You should do a little research on the border collie dog breed before you choose it as a pet. They require a lot of patience and exercise to thrive.
If you are a very busy person and do not spend a lot of time at home, you should consider a different breed. This breed cannot sit at home by itself and do nothing. They need to be properly trained and socialized.
If you live an active lifestyle then this is a really good breed for you. They love and will take as much activity as you can give them. They can be trained to do just about anything when started from their puppy stage. They are very good at the agility contests. They have been known to be the fastest dogs at the obstacle course.
They can actually still be trained to herd animals too! That is not just a fairy tale! That was the job they were bred for. Many years ago they were bred to work in little packs or alone to keep a herd in line. The thing about them is that they will do whatever it requires to get those animals to listen to them, even give them a bite on the ankles! They were so good at their job their owners could let them loose with the herd and trust that the border collie dog breed would keep them safe and keep them from going too far.
The border collie dog breed is a great breed for the active lifestyle family. If you would like to train a multi-talented dog and be willing to give them activities to do then this could be the dog breed for you. They need to be taken care of properly to ensure that they thrive in their life. They must be brushed daily and if they do actually “work” on a farm you will need to bathe them regularly to ensure that their coat does not knot up and get tangled or they will not function properly. You must make sure to give them all of their shots as well because with them wanting to be outside and active they are prone to getting sick.
